Done a quick photo shoot of Milo, the chihuahua for Independence Day! He was a little less cooperative on this shoot than he has been for others. On the first shot, he wouldn’t sit up straight, and would slouch. I was finally about to give up when he decided he was going to do things his way. So I capitalized on the moment and captured this shot, which I think was the best of the batch!

Patriotic Milo

I attempted to do a video dressing him up and doing the photo shoot but to be honest, it was a bit too disorganized to really show so I abandoned that idea. Furthermore, I am not good at video-making and a lot better behind the camera taking stills.

A little history on the patriotic tune ‘Yankee Doodle Dandy’

Yankee Doodle is an old melody that originated back to the French and Indian War of 1754-1763.  The British sang a version of the song that poked fun of the American colonial rebels.  In 1750s England, a “Yankee” was a general term meaning ‘contempt’. “Doodle” refers to a lowly provincial person, where as “Dandy” means a meticulously well-dressed man. In the 1700s, “macaroni” was a word used to describe an English ‘dandy’ who had foreign fashions and mannerisms.
The Americans however adopted Yankee Doodle and turned it into a patriotic battle-cry song that became popular during the American Revolution.  They sang it proudly while battling the British and they sang it during the surrender of British general Lord Cornwallis to General George Washington at Yorktown in 1781.
