In 2008, my brothers and I went on a camping trip to Colorado. One of the areas that we visited was the Ashcroft Ghost Town located about 10 miles south of Aspen.

ASHCROFT GHOST TOWN, near Aspen, Colorado
In the 1880’s, Ashcroft was a booming silver mining town that flourished for about 10 years. The town had as many as 20 saloons, 2 newspapers, and a school. Once the mines were depleted, people abandoned the area. Jack Leahy was the last resident to live there, dying in 1939 making Ashcroft a real ghost town. Ashcroft was entered into the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
