This is a series of the photos that I had taken in the outer banks of North Carolina. I will start the series with Bodie Island Lighthouse. This lighthouse in my opinion is the most photogenic lighthouse that I have shot.

Bodie Island lighthouse is located a few miles south of Nags Head, NC. The name “Bodie” is pronounced “body” as the original plaque inside the lighthouse spells it “Body”. It is possible that the island was named after a family named “Body” but folklore suggests it was named because of the many bodies that washed ashore from numerous shipwrecks near the island.

The Outer Banks of North Carolina has been referred to as the Graveyard of the Atlantic. More than a thousand ships have disappeared beneath the waves taking their crews with them. Lighthouses were constructed to give navigational aid to ships to prevent these kinds of disasters from occurring.

If you believe in ghosts…. A local was telling me a story of a “ghost ship” that was seen off the coast and the sound of drowning men screaming could be heard with each wave of the ocean. ….that is if you believe in ghosts!

This was the entrance to Frisco Pier. This building and pier no longer exists. Hurricane Earl severely damaged the pier in 2010. The pier was left in disrepair until it was completely demolished and removed in 2018. This image was taken in 2014. The sun was setting and the sky was unbelievably beautiful as you see it here.
