Fun fact: The name June is the modern-day adaption of the Latin word Junius, which has its origins dating back to the ancient Romans. It is thought that the name came from the Roman goddess of marriage, Juno.

I had planned on taking a trip to Cape San Blas to photograph a beached shrimp boat but with bad weather the last two weeks, I decided not to go. I didn’t want to drive 7 hours to a location and not being able to shoot it. So I decided to stay closer to home.
Crescent Lake offers a lot of photographic possibilities. Most of the lake is lined with cypress trees covered with Spanish moss, and many are well out into the water like this one. The sun had already set illuminating the beautiful sky above.

A massive dust cloud from the Saharan Desert spurred off of Africa’s coast and reached Florida this month. Sunsets and sunrises are more yellow and reddish in color due to the low angle of light as the sun sets or rises. This colorful sunset was taken in early June with the Mavic Mini 2 at the Andalusia boat ramp on Crescent Lake.

I drove to Matanzas Inlet to experiment with long exposure photography. The idea was to focus on the fort, but unfortunately that didn’t turn out as well as I liked. I used a Haida 10 stop ND filter to lengthen the exposure to 2 minutes, smoothing out the water that you see here. The best shot that I got was of this sign in the middle of the water.
Sometimes bad weather will bring an opportunity for a beautiful sunset. On this day, it had stormed and rained all day long. I noticed a little clearing to the east so I thought maybe I would take a chance and drive to the beach. There was hardly anyone on the beach, it was high tide and as the sun set to the west the whole sky lit up to the prettiest of color.

This last image was my favorite from that shoot. I had the camera set up on the rocks and a wave rushed in and soaked my feet. I pressed the shutter as the water was rushing out as another wave was rushing in.

These two images were taken Wednesday morning on the last day of June. It was a beautiful start of the day. This fishing pier is located in Fletcher Park on the north side of Crescent City, Florida.

What part of Florida?
Crescent Lake is between Flagler and Putnam Counties, just northwest of Daytona Beach. Marineland and Matanzas Inlet are located just south on A1A from St. Augustine. Thank you for visiting my website.
