2021 Aᴜᴛᴜᴍɴ Pʜᴏᴛᴏɢʀᴀᴘʜʏ Tʀɪᴘ
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park has always been my number one pick for photographing fall color. Every year I take a couple of weeks off to head to the mountains but this year I want to go to someplace different.

Covid-19 and the restrictions on travel that come with it make planning any kind of trip unpredictable. Usually, I would make reservations 6 to 9 months ahead of time however with the unpredictability of government shutdowns, I choose to wait until about a month before I go. This year I have chosen several possible locations in the event that some of the places maybe inaccessible.

Three Possible Areas for a Fall Shoot
First choice, is the Shenandoah National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. Some places of interest are Dark Hollow Falls and Naked Creek Falls as well as many of the overlooks along Skyline Drive; not to mention a revisit to Luray Caverns. I am also planning to spend a day at Mabry Mill, located about 150 miles south of the park on Blue Ridge Parkway.
Second choice is the Ozarks of northern Arkansas and southern Missouri. Places of interest here are mostly in the Buffalo River area, specifically the area waterfalls including the Glory Hole of the Ozarks and the Buffalo River Waterfall. This would be an ideal area for the drone with fall colors as well.
Third choice is in Eastern Tennessee, specifically the Tellico Plains area. I want to reshoot the Bald River Falls, shown below and not nearby is Baby Falls. Conasauga Waterfall is also not far from there and all three are located in the Cherokee National Forest.

This is shaping up to be another crazy year for Covid-19 and the limitations put on travel. However, there should be some interesting subjects to photograph during the peak fall season this year in spite of the restrictions that are put in place. I am looking forward to Fall!
