I have always looked forward to packing the camper and making a road trip. I enjoy traveling to exciting places with hopes of coming home with some awesome photography. Making these trips have become increasingly difficult to take when having to deal with Covid restrictions and not being able to plan ahead of time for not knowing what the future may bring. With the Covid restrictions relaxed, we are now looking at rapidly rising, record-breaking fuel prices that makes it no longer feasible make these trips.
Seven days ago, I filled up my fuel tank and the cost of diesel was 3.859 gallon. When I hung the pump handle up, the price went to 4.199 gallon. Today the price is up to 5.399 gallon! I have heard that they are predicting the price of gasoline to exceed $6 per gallon, and diesel to be over $7. Perhaps my traveling days for landscape photography is over. It may be time to think about doing something a little different.
Since Christmas I have experimented with ‘photo props’ and using my dog as a model. The pictures have turned out incredibly well, especially for someone who has hardly ever used a flash. At some point I will be retiring from my job, and I was thinking that this may be a way to bring in a little extra money in the future. Perhaps photographing small pets and children using photo-props, especially during certain holidays, could be something I should explore. Right now, it is just a thought.
