Gaillardia are blanket flowers that are common along Florida’s beaches. This time of year they are the prettiest and most prevalent. On this evening I saw a blanket of flowers in front of a dead tree stump. I took a few pictures but wasn’t happy with the outcome so I focused on a single flower or two. The depth of field really makes the individual flower stand out!
After shooting the flowers I settled upon photographing this old falling down boat house in Summer Haven. It was near sunset but the storm clouds blocked any hope of having any color. I struggled to find a good balance of color for this image. No matter how I adjusted the color balance in camera, the color always seemed to look unrealistic. Maybe it was due to the poor lighting, the Hitech 4 stop ND filter or maybe a the combination of two. Either way I never got the color to my liking. So I selected the best rendition of this series and desaturated it by nearly 70%. Still not the image I had hoped for, but it was the best that I could do. Perhaps I should stick to photographing flowers or something because they turned out much better!
