Freedom isn’t free. Freedom has been paid for with the ultimate sacrifices of many Americans, both here at home and abroad. Today is a day of remembrance to honor all those who died in the service of this great nation. Let us never forget!
A quick photo-shoot meant for the 4th of July, but used this shot for this occasion! Another silly shot of my chihuahua being the patriot that he is!
Memorial Day was initially referred to as “Decoration Day” as it was observed by many communities after the American Civil War. A war so costly in human life which resulted in over 620,000 military deaths, roughly 2 percent of the total population at the time. John A. Logan, the Commander-in-Chief of the Grand Army of Republic, chose May 30, 1868, as a day to decorate the graves of Union soldiers across the nation. The name “Memorial Day” gradually became more common than “Decoration Day” after World War II but was not declared the official name by federal law until 1967.
Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day!
