Part One of Two

Last week we loaded up the camper and made a trip to Richmond, Virginia to see our son. We weren’t able to stay at our usual campground because they didn’t have vacancy for the days we needed.  I was fortunate enough to find a campground not too far away in Petersburg.  Picture Lake Campground is located on a small lake called Picture Lake.  The people that run the campground were very nice and we were set up at our campsite in no time at all.  We walked through the campground and saw the most beautiful flock of Canadian geese!  I was excited to see them and couldn’t resist but to take a few shots of them.

I got up in the morning and the geese were foraging along the shore of the lake.  There was one gander watching me, as if he was the one in charge to protect the flock.

While there, they took us to an amazing park in the Richmond area called Rockwood Park. We walked the trails through some beautiful woods.  There were turtles sunning on a log in a lake.  I attempted to take some pictures but the lighting was too bad to get anything decent.  On the trail there was a stream that ran along side of it.  There was a rotting stump next to the trail that had these tiny little mushrooms inside with a spider web stretched on top.

I have had very little practice with macro photography, but taking these shots has peaked my interest in exploring more into this area.

I found this little critter staring at me hiding in a hole of a root at the base of the tree. Reliable sources informed me that this is a baby squirrel. I tried to argue saying that it wasn’t, but I was fact-checked that this is indeed, a squirrel.

There was this cool looking tree on the trail that I couldn’t help but take pictures of.  The problem I had was that there were no clouds and the lighting was good at all.  This would be a perfect subject to go back and shoot with the good camera.

After the weekend we set out for our two day trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  That will be covered in another post very soon.
