Ravine Gardens State Park, Palatka, Florida

This morning, I visited Ravine Gardens, where the azaleas were in full bloom. Despite the windy conditions making it difficult to photograph flowers, I managed to capture a shot of the suspension bridge, which I later converted to black and white to improve its appearance.

Ravine Gardens is a 59-acre state park in Palatka, Florida created in the 1930s through efforts by the City of Palatka, local citizens, and several federal agencies. The gardens, featuring over 95,000 azaleas, 11,000 palm trees, and 250,000 ornamental plants, were maintained by the city until 1970 when the park was transferred to the state. Notable for its New Deal Era structures and formal landscape design, the park includes fieldstone terraces, rock gardens, and a cypress building, as well as the Court of States and a 64-foot obelisk dedicated to Franklin D. Roosevelt.
